Summertime, and the living is easy–and so is your oral hygiene routine! So don’t let those lazy summer days lull you into lazy oral hygiene habits. Here are a few tips to remember to help keep your smile bright and sunny.

First things first: keep up on the basics. Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day, with a toothbrush that has soft bristles. Floss or use an alternative interdental cleaner once a day for 2-3 minutes each session. If possible, finish the cleaning with an ADA approved mouthwash. If you have trouble spending enough time on your teeth, turn on your favorite summer playlist and brush away!

Take care of your smile while you’re traveling. Don’t forget to pack your oral hygiene tools in your suitcase! This can help you avoid dental problems while you’re on the road. Remember to air out your toothbrush as much as possible when traveling, as keeping it in closed spaces lets bacteria multiply rapidly. Don’t store your toothbrush with other toothbrushes, as this can lead to cross-contamination.

Remember to pack some ADA approved sugarless gum. This may help keep you from snacking unnecessarily, and will help clean your mouth between meals and brushing. The ADA Seal of Acceptance guarantees a product that will do what it says it will do–help keep your mouth clean.
